The Church Choir

The Church Choir

The choir play an important role in worship at Eaglesham. They lead the singing, accompanied by The Organ, at the Sunday morning service as well as contributing either an introit or an anthem from October through to April. In addition, the choir usually prepare for a special service or concert at the end of each session - normally coinciding with Christmas and Easter.

The choir sing a wide variety of music: traditional music from the 17th and 18th centuries through to contemporary composers such as John Rutter. We have even sung “You Raise Me Up”, which was recorded by Josh Groban, as an anthem. Introits tend to come from the Church Hymnbook, CH4, and are sometimes used to teach the congregation new hymns.

Rehearsals take place on a Thursday night at 7:30pm in the Upper Room of the Carswell Halls. We practice the hymns for the following Sunday, introits and anthems and any other music for extra services and concerts.

Click here for Service Music details.

Currently we are rehearsing Introits and Anthems for Lent as well as music for the Maundy Thursday service, which will take place on Thursday 20th March in the Church. On Easter Sunday, the choir will join with the newly formed Youth Singing Group to sing an anthem from A Shout of Joy by Kelvin Thomas. The choir will also be joining with Giffnock South Parish Church Choir to record BBC Radio 2’s Sunday Half Hour programme in March. Details of when this programme is going to be aired will be made available later.

Choir practices are fun and provide a time for fellowship as well as praising God through music. New members will always be made very welcome, even if you just want to come along for a week or so to give it a go. Speak to any choir member or Peter Howard, Organist and Choirmaster, if you want to know more.

Alongside the musical aspect of the choir, we support a number of charities each year. Money is raised through the annual Choir Coffee Morning which is held in April and is organised by choir members. Also, at the end of each session the choir go out for a meal, usually at the Peking Village in Eaglesham.

There is a choir committee who oversee the administration and general running of the choir. The current office bearers are:

Chairman: Stirling Douglas

Choir Members Representative: Hannah Fraser and Peter Primrose

Secretary: Ismay Davidson

Librarian: Sandra Morton
