The Parish

The Parish of Eaglesham (pronounced Eagles-ham) lies nine miles south of Glasgow and has a population of 4,500 There are two main centres of population within the Parish – Eaglesham village and the community of Waterfoot. The primary school is located within Eaglesham itself and the local secondary school is located in the neighbouring parish of Newton Mearns. Despite its proximity to Newton Mearns and East Kilbride, Eaglesham retains its own strong sense of place.

The parish includes farmland and moorland to the south and east. Although a number of the inhabitants are employed locally the majority commute to Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

The Glasgow Southern Orbital road, completed in May 2005, diverted heavy traffic from the village and restored a level of tranquillity to Eaglesham.

St Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church is the only other church in the village. In the surrounding areas there are other Church of Scotland charges as well as Baptist, Episcopal and Evangelical churches.
